BAVARIA SPORT 38
The Vessel
Approaching the Sport 38 dockside, the most striking feature is its volume, she has a big freeboard resulting in huge headroom below decks. The sharply aft raked windscreen and forward-facing Targa arch give the boat a sporty and racy look and feel. For those hot and balmy days at Clifton there is fitted Bimini which extends forward and aft of the Targa arch providing relief from the UV
Once boarded on the swim platform, the single-level cockpit presents as a nice setup for entertaining – there’s lots of seating, a wetbar with fridge, and plenty of places to lounge about. Sun worshippers are taken care of with a huge aft sunpad that lifts on gas struts, revealing cavernous storage for fenders, 2 x 6 Man Liferafts, and a 2M rollup dinghy (2.5HP Mariner outboard engine stored in engine bay). Standup Paddle board with paddle included. Safety equipment for 12 PAX including 12 adult lifejackets and additional 2 kids lifejackets.
Steps from the cockpit lead to nice, wide sidedecks, where good handholds make the trip forward safe and easy and once on the foredeck, there’s lots of room to spread out with a double sunbed cushion that locates on the foredeck, the anchor gear is housed in under a hatch thereby leaving the area uncluttered underfoot.
INTERIOR
Access to the accommodation is through a sliding door alongside the helm. The four steps lead to the saloon and galley with 2.1m of headroom. Finished in a light oak with portholes either side of the hull that let in light and provide cross-flow ventilation, the interior is bright and cheerful. The galley to starboard is equipped with lots of countertop workspace, two sinks, electric cooktop (with induction hot plates) microwave and a fridge/freezer. Included in the inventory is an Espresso coffee machine. To port is a dinette, with the DVD player mounted on bulkhead forward.
The forward cabin has a large double berth and the sense of space continues through to the storage hanging space and shelving. A large overhead hatch and side portholes provide light and ventilation. There is a DVD screen fitted on the aft bulkhead to Port.
The full-beam cabin amidships is vast and, although fitted out with twin berths, they easily convert to a large double, courtesy of a handy infill that otherwise is utilised as the backrest to create a sofa out one of the berths. There’s loads of light, from hatches and, as with elsewhere, you’ll find plenty of storage and hanging space. Like the forward Owner’s cabin, there is DVD screen fitted.
The single, central bathroom is yet another model of space utilisation, accommodating a head, vanity unit and separate walk-in shower. Its location at the bottom of the companionway steps means it’s easily accessed from both cabins and is conveniently placed as a day head.
Situated in the engine bay is the hot water calorifier, along with separate batteries for each motor and the house battery. Two engine blowers and, forward of the Volvo Pentas, is the 720lt fuel tank that features a large inspection hatch on top. With the fuel tank located amidships, at the equilibrium, onboard stability is therefore not affected by fuel load. Not shown in the photograph is the automated fire suppression system (off for servicing at the time)
